Environmentally sustainable business practices cover areas such as: 

  • minimising the use of energy, water and natural resources
  • waste management, including maximising resource recovery 
  • using recycled products and products with low environmental impact 
  • minimising and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions
  • habitat and environment protection, and 
  • travel

Suppliers can adopt environmentally sustainable business practices under a broader framework. This could be an environmental management system.

An environmental management system is designed to:

  • ensure organisations manage any environmental impacts their products, services and activities create
  • continuously improve environmental performance

An environment management system provides a formal structure to environmental management. It covers areas such as:

  • training
  • record management
  • inspections
  • objectives
  • policies
